Chair Addresses Housing Needs at Leadership Danbury 2010
Danbury Housing Partnership Chair Mark J. Nolan stressed the importance of a healthy housing market to efforts to encourage economic growth in the Greater Danbury area at a Leadership Danbury 2010 workshop held on May 27 in Bethel. The event was sponsored by the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce and included a panel on economic conditions and business prospects in the region.
Mr. Nolan presented his views on the condition of the local housing market from the prospective of someone who has been involved in the housing market as both a for-profit property developer/manager and as an active participant in the efforts of non-profit organizations to create affordable housing opportunities. In addition to serving as managing partner of Nolan Enterprises Investments, Mr. Nolan also serves as president of the Non-Profit Housing Rental Corporation, Secretary of the Non-Profit Development Corporation of Danbury and chair of the Danbury Housing Partnership.
Mr. Nolan noted: “The provision of a range of housing opportunities in the region is crucial to maintaining the diverse workforce need by our businesses to sustain the economic health of our region. Providing affordable workforce housing should be a focus of the combined efforts of the public and private sectors.”
The Danbury Housing Partnership was created by the City of Danbury to oversee implementation of the regional Ten-Year Plan To End Homelessness and to encourage the creation of a range of affordable housing opportunities in the region to ensure the presence of a strong workforce. Mr. Nolan updated the group regarding ongoing community efforts to produce supportive housing for persons with special needs, affordable family units and a range of housing options for our veterans. The Victorian Meadows development currently under construction in four phases was noted as an example of a private developer working in concert with non-profit agencies to meet housing needs in the community.
